Jersey Biters

A community for friends and food in New Jersey!

While I have waxed poetic in the past on other boards about this little jewel, I felt the need to share here.

Located in the Stella Plaza near Home Depot, exit 83 off the parkway. BYO, Small, unassuming, and un-pretentious, I absolutely love this place ! Mexican/Colombian comfort food.....
Outside of the complimentary chips, everything I have had there has been at the least "good" and most "great". This is not fine dining by any means but one can see the care taken in the preparation of the food. Another amazing thing, to me at least, is that you don't need to salt the food. Most, if not all other places of this ilk require salt on everything ! Not here.
To go into great detail on all the food I've enjoyed here would be a waste of time. the arepas are great, love the chicharones(fried bacon) with lime, pork tingas, the salsas(especially the hot one) and great agua frescas. My personal favorite being the papaya(helps digestion) and the fresh "limeade". Awesome.......
El Familiar provides great value as well, as we normally spend a minimum of 100$ at Nobi, our other fav in Toms River, we can get out of this place for 30$ and give a generous tip for always great service.
Now, if it just had some bohemia beer and change the complimentary chips, it might be nirvana........
