Jersey Biters

A community for friends and food in New Jersey!

Well, I have to share my news. I submitted an article to Currents Magazine and they loved it. It is going to appear in the June issue along with a photo of the dish. I wrote an article about homegrown tomatoes and my father's amazing tomato plants when I was a kid. The article finishes with the Orzo recipe I make with tomatoes, basil, feta, and black olives. They've asked me to submit another article for the July issue. What great PR for Jersey Bites. Now I've got to start wracking my brain for another topic.

Once the magazine is out, I'll publish the article here.

A little late, but congrats -- that's fabulous! From time to time I see Garden Plate up here in the Princeton area. Sometimes I miss a season though. I'm going to hop on over to check out Currents now...

Yea, he was a pioneer that's for sure. I have a black and white photo that I hope they'll be able to use in the magazine. It's of the original "Marquee" that read, Bev Anderson's Trade Winds and in the background is a trailer parked on the sand. That's basically all it was when he started. Pretty funny.

I'm actually not familiar with Garden Plate. I'll have to look into both of them. How cool about your grandfather!!! Loved that place....

You know what, I don't know. I just reached out to them, invited them to take a look at my blog and they said yes. I'm assuming after they read my stuff. I've been trying to tie in local information in the articles so they're more about the area than really the recipe. The recipe is just a bonus. The article for July will be on my Grandfather who was the original founder of Trade Winds. I figured that was a good angle for July.

My advice is contact them and ask. It never hurts. You should try Garden Plate too. I'm not sure if they even publish a magazine anymore or if its all web based. I've never seen an actual publication, have you?

Very cool! Are they always looking for freelance writers? Do tell as I'm always looking for writing assignments.
