Yeah, well, it's been quite the year: new baby, losing a job, etc etc.
Blog-wise, we have our first contest going (woohoo), we started a fan page on facebook with weekly discussions, and we have a few more exciting things happening later this month.

I apologize for the neglect as the restaurant has gotten much busier since I started this.
So, I can't tell if Spring is here, too cold for the Southern Boy ya know, here is our Early Spring Menu. Frankly, while I love braises, they are getting very heavy. Time to lighten up!

Hi Again, I forgot to mention that we're working on a new menu. We've added Homemade Pastrami that even New Yorkers say is GREAT! We make it into a plain pastrami sandwich or into a Pastrami Ruben. On the new menu, it'll also be part of the combo platter. We'll also be offering smaller appetizers, since the normal one's are way too big for one person. We've added some of the old Friendly's Bar & Grill favorites like Chicken Marsala and Francais! On the new menu it'll be calls "Chicken Specia…

Hi All, I've been told about how important getting on to facebook is to help advertise a business. I just started my facebook site under my name "Ben Fisher" and a group called Ben's eXtreme Bar-B-Q Smokehouse & Grill. I'm not totally sure how I'll proceed from here, but it's a start, and something all family owned small restaurants might consider. Business has been sloooooooowly picking up due to word of mouth recommending our sloooooooooowly smoked BBQ. I sure hope this economy picks up ag…

Hello all. Been a bit busy - we have a brand new baby daughter, yknow!
Do we have things planned for the new year? Sure do!
Will we be able to do all the things we have planned? Dunno.
One thing that we will certainly be doing is going to The Tortilla Press sometime this weekend for my b-day. Yes!

I found these gems at ShopRite in Wall, at the olive bar section. They were calling my name. I was first introduced to them by my sister-in-law Jeanne, at a holiday party. OMG! They are wonderful. Sweet, tangy, with quite a bit of a kick. To serve these, you only need 2 ingredients,…

Like lots of others, I made a vow this year to start eating both more locally and more seasonally. While I haven’t exactly kept to my goal of trying a new farmer’s-market find every week – guilty, as charged –I recently grabbed a few bunches of mustard greens from the Hopewell Community Farmer’s Market, which I’m blessed to have in walking distance.
Looking to recreate a flounder and greens recipe I came across in the NY Times (see: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/08/dining/081arex.html?_r=1&…

Fabulous Funnel Cake
Trying always to be cognizant of what goes into successful entertaining, I have become an observer and student of everything around me.
One reoccurring theme I continue to note is the rule: keep it simple yet special. This past weekend I found an example of this…

Hey Everyone,
The video we shot last fall is finally up on ImCooked.com. It was an audition video we did for the Rachel Ray show. It didn't get picked, but we had so much fun doing it. We spoofed a couple of the popular cooking shows, though you probably can't pick up on much from the edited version that's up. My kids were "Emeril's Band" the set is right out of "Semi-Homemade with Sandra Lee" and I used a lot of Rachel Ray props and references. Like I said, we had so much fun with this. My gue…

Back to the work week after Labor Day, but Lisa and I had a nice weekend down in Atlantic City. We were celebrating our anniversary and Lisa's b-day. Got to spend an afternoon lounging at The Pool at Harrah's (verrrry nice!). Of course, we also had a couple of very enjoyable meals. We had a wonderful dinner at Sea Salt down in Stone Harbor, and followed that up with lunch the next day at The White House. It's always good to get to White House for an awesome sub. Lisa and I will be talking about…

After a fun Saturday in Vineland, we have plenty o' things to write about for the next week of so. Lisa's back into the swing of things and will be posting a bunch, I'm sure. I do have to mention Sweet Life Bakery, which is just off Landis Ave in Vineland. Wonderful stuff. Husband and wife CIA grads (Culinary Institute, not that other CIA) who are doing happy things with pastry. - John

John here.
We're off to see my folks in Willingboro tomorrow and will be participating in a Japanese tea ceremony being done by my sister. Then it's off to Vineland on Sunday for, hopefully, some interesting food-related stuff. Lisa had a good experience at Gyro Hut on Rt 37 in Toms River, which she will be sharing about very soon.

Supermarkets are getting fancy and so are their food courts. If my husband and I want a quick, easy and yummy dinner, we always know we can get good food at the nearby Whole Foods or Wegman's. Even Shop Rite used to be our post-church lunch stop (while we shopped for the week). When we dine at Wegman's, we always peruse the magazine section after the meal and look at home remodeling ideas or ideal vacation spots. Another supermarket with a great dining selection is the family owned McCaffrey's i…

John here. We have the Ice Cream Festival tomorrow (sorry you can't make it, Deb) and maybe an Asian festival in Cherry Hill later in the day (time and babysitting permitting). On Sunday, we have a couple of foodie friends from up in North Jersey coming for a visit to the house, so that should be fun. I've invited them to become Biters, so we'll see.
