The Shipwreck Grill is one of our favorite restaurants in Southern Monmouth County. Here's a review I wrote last year. Since then their website has gone live.
I have to agree with Deb that the Shipwreck is one of my favorites in southern Monmouth county. When we look at Monmouth county as a whole then it is Pino's, 448 Rt 9 N, Marlboro. I am partial (my hubby is the chef), but the food really is excellant. Super fresh seafood and Black Angus prime steaks, and my all time favorite osso bucco, yum!
You need a reservation on the weekends and I love the entertainment offered six nights a week.
Another overrated place: Old Man Rafferty's in Asbury Park. Friends and I were there last night and the service was laughably unprofessional.
The kid who was serving us was apparantly having a bad night and took it out on us. Off to a bad start when two cups of tea came out cold and without tea bags. He snapped at my friend when she asked and then produced a box for them to choose from.
It was about 20 minutes before he took our order. And this is how he did so: he pointed to two of my friends and said "I'll start with you two"! It was so hard not to laugh. I was next, but he ignored me and skipped to the end of the table and then came back to me last. He was rude to everyone.
So one of us spoke to the hostess. She was very apologetic and did say she would speak to him, but nothing else was offered.
When the waiter came back he was so obsequious it was comical.
All in all pretty funny but not worth the trip or the so-so food on a stormy, rainy night.

Just did a review on Market in the Middle. We had a lousy experience there Friday night. The staff was fine but the food was really not very good. Check out JerseyBites.com
Do you go to the Brick Wall. I love their food. Their shrimp with Parmesan grits, to die for.
I've been to the Brick Wall, my daughter goes there all the time and to Market in the Middle too. But she goes more for the social scene than the food. :)
We finally got to Brandl about 2 weeks ago and, not what we expected. Everything was prepared rather well, unfortunately alot of it was very old, (read unedible). As usual, we did not complain or send anything back, just sort of moved it around, trying to find something not old. Paid, left, won't go back. It was expensive, next time we will just go to the Shipwreck, much closer to home, not old food. BTW, we fought over the bathroom the entire next day:(
