I wasn't part of the thread that was talking burgers, but I saw the new burger discussion and thought I'd take part. For me, the best burgers in NJ are at Stage Left in New Brunswick. You need to sit at the bar to get them (not in the dining room) but they are made with great meat, served with a wonderful horseradish ketchup and big meaty fries. Go all out and get the cheddar and bacon on top... it's worth it. And I bet that everyone sitting at the bar will be talking about how good the burgers are... I've had many conversations about them there with all my fellow die-hards.
Girl you need to get to Trinity in Keyport! The burgers there are awesome. And I'm not just saying that because the chef is a member here, lol! And for some extra indulgence, you can get the burger topped with foie gras.
i'll have to check that out. i'm partial to tumulty's (new brunswick) angus burger myself. sounds similar to the stage left burger, with the cheese and bacon and horseradish sauce.
tumulty's garden burger is also exceptional, though i don't like to acknowledge garden burgers in any sort of burger discussion.

I'm so boring. About once a year, I go to White Rose in Highland Park and get a double double cheese with fries and a grape drink. I probably lost all culinary credibility with that, but I've eaten at the Rose since I was a kid, and it makes me happy. If I had one of those burgers more than once a year, my arteries would close up even faster than they are already.
White Rose, my god. I used to live in Highland Park and about once (or twice or three times) a year we'd all be drunk enough to really really really want a Rose burger. It's like good, bad for you shore food in the middle of central jersey.
I mentioned this before, but since we now have a section just for this, I have to put in another plug for The Fireplace on Route 17 in Paramus. It was a very popular after movie place to go when I was in high school in the 60s. (Yes, it's been there THAT long!) They have excellent char-broiled hamburgers, and for me, charbroiling is a prerequisite for a good burger. The also have a really good condiment bar equipped with ketchup, mustard, pickles, slices of onion, and both Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce and A-1 Steak Sauce. Though they put those there for steak sandwiches, I put them on my hamburger, too. And the decor is real NJ rustic with slate floors and wooden, early American style tables and chairs. I recently joined their Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1377347539&ref=profile#/...
